Blink 182

So right now I would like to talk about by far the largest influence on my music. The soul band behind me wanting to play music and to do it as a career. They have helped me through out my life ever since I first heard their single on 'Now 3' in which I would burn a hole through the cd due to listening to that song so much. I have been in love with them for 10 years now. They have been with me through every point of my life that I can truly say made me who I am. These three band members and friends have helped me form so many friendships. Most of my best friends relationships are based off this band. Without them I infact would probably be dead. They have saved my life with their whimsical, childish and oh so deep lyrics countless times. They can bring me to tears with every lyric that I hear. I am talking about a band consisting of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker known simply to their fans as Blink.

I can recall perfectly the first time I listened to them while sitting in my father's blue pick up truck in 1999 after purchasing 'Now 3'. As I heard the first lyrics of the song come blasting through the passenger side speakers I fell in love. "All the small thing, True care, truth brings." I would not understand the deeper meaning behind that song till I was older. I was 7 at the time, the same age as the band in fact. They had formed in my birth year. This song was stuck in my head every second of every day for the next 3 years, not being able to get a hold of any other music by them.

Then came 2003 when I was able to get their self titled album 'Blink 182' for christmas. This would become the most inspiring, important and listened to album of my life. As I heard the first song from the album, ' Feeling This', the lyrics "Fate fell short this time" stuck in my mind and I hold these lyrics to this day very very very close to my heart.

When I had collected all 6 of their albums, I met Carlos in my match class in 7th grade. I had been playing drums for almost a year at that time and he played guitar. Our common connection, Blink 182 as our favourite band. My friend Zach, who did not play an instrument at the time, I met in my PE and English class. Our common connection, Blink 182. Zach has remained my friend since then and our love for Blink has grown since that first meeting.

When Carlos and I started a band, we met up with another friend. His name was Quest and he loved Blink 182 with a passion. We started a band originally named Reckless Abandon, after one of our favourite songs by Blink 182. We decided to get another gutiarist. His name was Billy. I remember playing with him for the first time and jamming on 'Easy Target' and having a great time doing so.

As we grew older and the band broke up, it seemed like they would never come back together. Then Travis Barker got in a plane crash and everything seemed to come right back together. Blink is back. Blink will live on forever. This is a commemoration to the single greatest band on earth. These three musicians have influenced me so much and I can't get enough of their music. I will never forget that first time listening to them in the car or all the friends who I've made based on our love of them. I will always hold them high in my respect and hold every one of their songs close to my heart. One day I may be able to wear one of their lyrics on my heart, quite preferably "Fate fell short this time". The one lyric that has countlessly saved my life and is always fresh in my mind when ever something goes wrong. I love them and I hope you hold them in a high respect for all they have done for music and every one in my life. There will never be another band that can take that spot that Blink 182 has tattooed on my bruised heart.

End of classes

So today is my last day of any real classes. I am currently sitting in my Book of Mormon class waiting for it to be over so I can go back to Cassie's apartment. I can't wait to be home so I can grow out my beard, draw with Chase, jam with McKay and Will, sing to a blasting car radio to the songs of Bowling For Soup and Cute Is What We Aim For and to have Mckinley wax my chest. When I get back I am also excited to see my mothers. Have some good conversations with everyone back home. I can't wait to get home but I don't want to leave the presence of Cassie. I will probably miss her more than any other thing about Rexburg. I will see you in two days!

One week

So its one more week till I leave Rexburg and get back to Woodland. I'm so stoked to see all my friends and family. Even more so, I'm excited to start recording my new EP, jamming with a few bands and trying to schedule some tour things or some shows for LWG pretty soon. I'm also considering getting some ink done while I'm down there. I know I'm going to get lectured on this by Caryn and my mother but oh well.

In other news I received word that I would be accepted into the LA school of recording arts but the problem is that I am only 17 and they won't take people under 18 so thats out the door for now. I will wait another year I guess.

I also have set another goal for this break, to try to get some muscle on my tummy! Just thought all of you would like to know that.

Professional musician?

I thought you would be interested in hearing that I have applied to be registered in the Itunes store which means that I get paid royalties on every track of mine that gets sold. I'm not sure the percentage of what is mine when the track is purchased but nevertheless I would be a paid musician. I will find out if I am approved or not either via e-mail or a letter in the mail. If I am approved, I will sign a contract with them about sales and all that crap.

Ep announcement

So after being at college for about three months, I've been working on some new material and ironing out some ideas about new music. So over the seven week break in California, I will be working on a new EP that will probably be done by September. The EP is going to be titled "Songs From The Macbook' which posses the basic concept that all of the songs that are on that EP will be recorded straight from my Macbook. All guitars are plugged straight into my computer or recorded through my onboard mic. There will be some guest performing from my friends Zach Bruno, WIll Devine and McKay Curteman, each of whom are some of my best friends and talented musicians and I will be also working with their bands very closely and I will be announcing my contributions with them as they come. I am to be back in less than two weeks and I hope all of you are enjoying your summer. I love you and care for each and every one of you and pray that you will remember to support your local music store and indie record store.

Yellowstone

So we had a four-day weekend last week. I'm so bored in class so I thought I might sit back and remember Friday and tell you about it. So on friday we went to Yellowstone. It was Cassie, her two roommates Rose and Grace and me. All jammed in Rose's little car with Cassie and I sharing the backseat and blasting disney songs. It was quite interesting. It was a very boring drive and Cassie even fell asleep. It was raining on and off, very hard and there was lighting and it wasn't the most pleasant thing in the world. So when we arrived, we had been stuck in a small car for about 2 hours and one and a half of which, Cassie was sleeping and using my lap as a pillow. The price to get in was 25$ per car, which I have no money so I need to pay Rose back later. As we get in, we decide to go to old faithful and the bubbling mud pits. As we get to the mud pits we made a stop at some falls that were pretty but over all kind of boring. And on the way we saw some bison and a ranger dude. When we got to the mud, I was happy. Pretty bacteria. Need I say more? Then when we were done with that we decided to go to Ol' Faithful. It was quite a disappointment. Both times that we saw it go off, it went at like half the amount that It usually does. So that was very disappointing. Then onto more geysers. I think now I should mention none of us got much sleep so we were kind of exhausted. Cassie, when she gets tired, sometimes gets really hyper. Its insanely entertaining. Mix this with my excitement for colourful things and shooting water and Cassie's exhausted hyperness then you get the most annoying couple in yellowstone for a day. Even more so, we acted like 5 year-olds with the colourfulness. More annoying than those old asian couples who can't speak anything but korean. After walking around the geysers for about two hours we decided to go home. Then more sleep on our way back! That was pretty much Yellowstone, it wasn't that exciting. Haha
